DINAS Powys Art Group, now in its 22nd year, will be holding its annual exhibition at the Parish Hall on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12, from 10am till 4pm each day.

Feedback about the exhibition last year was extremely positive, with many comments about the high quality of the artwork and the range of subjects.

This year there will be some new features to appeal to an even wider audience.

In addition to a wide variety of original paintings, there will be a selection of personal images of Dinas Powys, perfect for anyone looking for a picture with local connections, there will be crafts for sale, created by members of the group and there will be a table of materials for children to create their own artwork under parental supervision.

As well as giving group members a chance to show their work, the exhibition raises funds for charity.

This year there will be a donation from sales towards an electric wheelchair for nine year old Noah Gee, who has severe cerebral palsy. Noah’s grandparents, Roy and Gill have been active members of the art group for many years and are helping the fundraising efforts for Noah.

The art group began as a group of friends meeting at the house of the late Rosemary Bramley. As membership grew, it became a fully constituted group which has now been in action for 22 years.

There are 34 members, half of whom meet on a Monday afternoon and half on a Monday night, at Kynance Hall.

Members range in age from their 20s to their 80s or 90s and everyone has an individual approach to painting. The tutor, Glyn Pooley, is an established artist with a studio in Barry.

Although he sets a programme each term, there is complete freedom for members to follow their own interests. Glyn provides guidance and occasional talks about different artists and styles of painting.

Admission to the exhibition is £1 for adults, including a drink, and children can come in free of charge. Children particularly enjoy getting involved in voting for the People's Choice of favourite painting.
