MUSICIANS Luke Starkey and August Guan will perform an of evening of music using rarely heard instruments, the lute, virginal and organ in Cogan.

Luke studied composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, his tutors including Peter Reynolds and Tim Raymond.

During his studies, his works were performed by ensembles such as the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Symphony Orchestra, the Millennium Ensemble, and the Arditti Quartet. He was also winner of the Mervyn Burtch Composition Prize in 2009.

Luke has given recitals and concerts throughout Cardiff and South Wales, including the regular lunchtime concerts at National Museum Wales, Cardiff.

August is the organist and choirmaster at All Saints Church, Penarth and studied musical direction and composition at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, where he graduated with a distinction.

At present, he is researching 18th century British keyboard arrangements for his PhD under Dr David Ponsford's supervision at Cardiff University, dividing his time equally between performance and scholarship.

The concert will take place in the historic St Peter's Church, Cogan on Saturday, November 19.
