THE Music at Lunchtime season of concerts at All Saints Church in Victoria Square, Penarth continues until the end of November.

Next up on Monday, November 14 will be the Eilan Quartet, who will return to the church a year after they first performed.

The quartet’s leader, Abigail Askew said: “We are promising a light-hearted programme of classical music including Haydn’s Joke Quartet and some smaller classics such as Elgar’s Chanson de Matin with some more fun songs after a short interval.”

The Eilan Quartet formed in September 2014 after meeting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. Its members consist of current fourth year undergraduate students Lily Rogers (viola), Abigail Askew (violin one) and third year students Emma Curtis (violin two) and India George (cello).

The quartet receive regular coaching from James Boyd and Catherine Manson as part of the MusicWorks programme. Other coaching opportunities include tuition from Pablo Hernán Benedi, Elias Quartet, Allegri Quartet and Alice Neary (Gould Trio).

The Eilan Quarter have performed for All Saint’s Church Penarth, Friends of Cwmdu Music, St Peter’s Music Society Budleigh Salterton and the RWCMD Student Showcase as part of the Gould Trio Beethoven Festival.

This summer, the Eilan Quartet were entered as the string department’s representatives for the intercollegiate Cavatina string Quartet competition and the interdepartmental RWCMD’s McGrenery Chamber Music Prize. They were the prize winners of the Bridgewood and Neitzert String Quartet RWCMD prize in June. Recently, the quartet have been part of a college outreach programme in primary schools and are looking forward to exploring further outreach opportunities.

Recitals start at 1pm and last about an hour. Entry is free but audience members show their appreciation by making a donation to the church's organ restoration fund.

The concerts are friendly and informal and many choose to bring their lunch along to have on the Gallery. Teas and coffees are provided.

The church is totally accessible to disabled people and a warm welcome is extended to visitors and regulars alike.
