PENARTH Acoustic Club will be back on Friday, November 18 with another line-up of South Wales talent.

Last month the club welcomed a record-breaking audience and this time they're hoping to do the same.

Aberdare’s Ragsy, a singer/songwriter, presenter and rock 'n' roll chef, will be bringing his show to the club for the first time. A lifelong poet and musician, he became a household name a couple of years ago when he impressed the judges and audience with his performance on BBC’s The Voice, choosing fellow Welshman Sir Tom Jones to become his mentor.

Also, returning by popular demand will be Omega Two. Featuring Jane Williams (vocals) and Pete Mathison (guitar), they will be playing a mix of Americana, jazz and blues. With a voice and style often compared to Eva Cassidy, Jane has performed at the Brecon Jazz Festival, made regular radio and television appearances, and last August did a live recording session with Van Morrison.

Originally from Cumbria, Pete Mathison, a former London session musician, is a renowned guitarist whose career has seen him play with Red Beans and Rice, Freddie and the Dreamers and with Ray Davies, the lead singer and songwriter for The Kinks. With the latter, he has toured the world and performed on the Glastonbury main stage.

Katherine Stansfield is a novelist and poet originally from Cornwall but now based in Cardiff. Her debut novel, The Visitor, was published by Parthian in 2013, which went on to win the 2014 Holyer an Gof Prize for Fiction.

Her first book of poetry, Playing House, was published by Seren in 2014, and Literature Wales awarded her a Writer’s Bursary to complete her second collection. She has a PhD in Creative Writing from Aberystwyth University, where she taught as a lecturer for several years. Falling Creatures, a crime novel, will be published by Allison and Busby in 2017, with a sequel to follow in 2018.

The club is held on the third Friday of every month upstairs at Penarth Conservative Club, Stanwell Road. Doors will open at 7.30pm for performances to begin at 8.15pm.

Tickets cost £5 and it is strongly advised to get your tickets in advance from Pencerdd Music o n029 2070 9982 or Griffin Books on 029 2070 6455. Bar facilities are available.
