PENARTH Acoustic Club returns on Friday, February 17, for their first session of 2017 and will welcome back Irish troubadour Wayne Brennan, poet Stephen Payne and welcome for the first time at the club, the Whiskey River Boys.

Wayne Brennan is a singer/songwriter and recording artist from Offaly, Ireland. He released his debut album, In my Hands, in 2009 and has toured extensively supporting such acts as Gypsy Kings and Alabama 3.

He is a seasoned performer on national radio and TV in Ireland and had a top 20 hit in his home country with his song And I Love, which currently has more than 600,000 hits on YouTube.

In the past two years Wayne has won three national song contests in Ireland with songs from his new album Live, Love, Sing and Dance and his live performances, characterised by his vocals and guitar skills, have made him much sought after on the live music circuit.

Stephen Payne works at the University of Bath. He therefore shares his time between Bath and Penarth, and writes poems between Cardiff Central and Filton Abbey Wood.

His first full collection of poems, Pattern Beyond Chance was published by HappenStance in 2015, and was shortlisted for Wales Book of the Year.

Those who remember the Penarth Folk/Blues Club back in the late 80s/early 90s will no doubt remember Martin Blake from his many visits with either Blake's III, Joe Le Taxi, or American Express.

A guitar and banjo player, Martin has been playing and singing since the big Folk-Blues revival of the mid ‘60s, and is currently to be found playing with the six-piece Whiskey River, Blakes III, The Blake Plowman Hot Band and The Grass Snakes.

In the Whiskey River Boys (a stripped-down version of Whiskey River), he is partnered by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Aidan Sheehan, also of Whiskey River, and often seen about Cardiff toting his harmonica and Cajun squeeze-box.

Doors will open at 7.30pm for the performance to begin at 8.15pm.

Tickets cost £7 in advance or £8 on the door, and it is strongly advised to get your tickets in advance from Pencerdd Music (029 2070 9982) or Griffin Books (029 2070 6455). Bar facilities are available.
