THE long-awaited new skateboard facility in Dinas Powys is open for use!

The Vale of Glamorgan's Parks Division recently announced the completion of the new area at Parc Bryn Y Don.

This much-anticipated project - expected to cost £150,000 but designed, constructed and completed for £125,000 - is already proving to be extremely popular with the local community.

And the Council says the park's opening is a great example of the Vale Council working to deliver facilities in consultation with the community.

Phil Beaman, Operational Manager for Parks and Grounds Maintenance, said: "Projects of this kind, managed by our colleagues in the Landscape Section, are extremely rewarding.

"Working with the local community and partners such as the Youth Service and the Police brought great benefits for this successful project.

"The facility is a state-of-the-art skating arena that can be used by boards, bikes and blades.

"The consultation with the users and designers of the equipment has developed a flexible feature that includes a number of different ramps that in the future can be rearranged if necessary.

"Floodlighting is also provided to allow the site to be used until 9pm in the darker nights.

"To make sure the users are safe, the ramps are in a clearly visible position. The Parks Division will manage the facility, which is the eighth in the Vale of Glamorgan."
