Refurb programme at Penarth's Paget Rooms continues
12:00pm Tuesday 30th October 2012 in News
THE third stage of the Paget Rooms improvement programme is about to start, when the ladies toilets will be refurbished and the main doors between the bar area and main hall replaced.
The refurbishment will begin next week, and the contractor has agreed to carry out the work without the need to close the Paget Rooms.
A Penarth Town Council spokeman said: "It will inevitably lead to some disturbance and it will be necessary during the period of the works to designate the gents toilets as the ladies and the disabled cloakroom as the gents.
"Regular hirers and those who have booked the Paget Rooms during this time have been contacted and asked for their understanding and patience. The alternative would have been to close the Paget Rooms.
"Once the ladies toilets have been modernised it is hoped that a similar programme of work can be put in to take place before the end of the financial year, to improve the gents toilets," the spokesman added.
"The Town Council wishes to acknowledge the support of the Vale of Glamorgan Council for a cash grant to assist with the cost of these improvements to this fine Grade II listed building.
"We apologise in advance for any disruption and urge anyone with concerns to contact us."
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, the chairman of the leisure and amenities committee said: "These are much needed works and I know the people of Penarth will welcome the new facilities."
