Penarth Co-op hit by double break-in worth £5K

POLICE are appealing for information following a double burglary at the Co-operative Food store on Windsor Road last week, after close to £5,000 worth of stock was stolen.
More than £4,000 worth of cigarettes and other tobacco products were stolen taken in the first raid alone, carried out in the early hours of Wednesday October 24.
And a further £608 worth of stock was taken during a break in four days later - which the police believe was carried out by the same men.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "The first incident occurred at around 2am on Wednesday 24th October, when two men forced entry into the premises via the front door.
"A large quantity of cigarettes was stolen from the front kiosk before the men made off in a silver Renault Clio.
"At around 1am on Sunday 28th October, the suspects returned, forced entry via the front doors of the shop and stole tobacco from the kiosk before making off in the silver Renault Clio once again.
"Police want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incidents or anyone who may have further information regarding the burglaries as part of their investigation."
It is thought crowbars were used to break into the front of the store.
The manager of the Co-op, Penarth, said it was a problem in a number of Co-op shops across Cardiff at the moment.
"There's been a bit of a spree recently," he said.
"It's happened in a number of our shops across the city.
"It's a major problem.
"But extra security measured have been put in place.
"I'm sure the police will catch those responsible."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Barry CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

*A 36-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the two burglaries but a police spokesperson said the appeal for witnesses was ongoing.
