THE annual Pastel competition at the Sully Painting Group was won this year by Jan Parsons with a delightful picture of her grandson.
Sue Kelly came second with her "Walk in the Woods" and Jan's "Red Indian" picture was judged third.
The competition is held annually as a way of encouraging members to use a medium that they may not have used before. In the Group members mostly use oil paints, water colours, acrylics and water based oils but only a minority use pastels regularly.
There are tutorials on the use of different media by members of the Group, but a competition gives added impetus to individual practice.
Peggy Davies kindly judged this year's competition. Peggy is a local artist with considerable experience in the use of pastels, and is a regular exhibitor at the annual paintings displays held during Penarth Holiday Week.
All are welcome to join in on Tuesday afternoons or evenings in the Jubilee Hall, Sully, and give it a try! No previous experience is necessary.
