Happy 100th birthday to former Penarthian Marjorie!
12:10pm Friday 18th January 2013 in News
PENARTHIAN: Marjorie when she was 21 years old.
FORMER Penarth resident Marjorie Chick celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday.
Marjorie was born on January 15, 1913, one of three daughters to Harry and Rose Finch. They were the proprietors of Finches Laundry which was located in Grove Terrace, Penarth.
The Penarth Hand Laundry, as it was originally known, was established circa 1880; whilst Marjorie's father Harry together with three brothers became proprietors around 1909 when the laundry was renamed W Finch & Sons.
Marjorie lived the first 95 years of her life in Penarth and was a well known face about town. Despite ill health she still has clear memories of growing up in the Penarth of 100 years ago!
Deteriorating health caught up with her and in December 2008 she moved to a residential care home in Bramhall, Cheshire to be close to her family.
Her son Laurence said: "Unfortunately she has spent the last 12 months in hospital, but continues to defy the doctors and was looking forward to receiving her message from the Queen!"
