Doctor sets up Penarth private GP practice
4:10pm Friday 8th February 2013 in News
A DOCTOR in the Vale has set up a new private GP practice.
Sara Thomas, whose work at Albert Road Surgery in Penarth will not be affected by the new project, has launched the Cardiff and Vale Private GP Practice.
A clinic is currently operating Tuesday to Friday afternoon and evenings in Cardiff Bay, and the service is also based at the Vale Hospital in Hensol on Saturday mornings.
Appointments and access to a range of medicines and services, from blood tests to X-rays, are already available at the Vale Healthcare Cardiff Bay Clinic.
At the new Saturday clinic in Hensol, appointments and prescriptions are available, with follow-up X-rays and tests available at both sites Monday to Thursday until 8pm, and Fridays until 4pm.
Dr Thomas said the major benefits will be the ‘flexibility and convenience included’.
“It is aimed at people who don’t, won’t or can’t get time off during the working week to see their NHS GP, or who want the luxury of a 30- minute appointment with access to on-site blood tests/X-rays and consultant support, and most medicines also available if needed too,” she said.
“Other users would be those who are not covered by the NHS.
“Any contact is also independent and totally separate to other providers, with no shared information, so it is highly confidential.
“It’s all about providing a good quality service at a time that’s convenient, and all in one place,” she added.
