Vale of Glamorgan MP Alun Cairns hails local green businesses

VALE MP Alun Cairns has hailed the contribution of Green Business to the local economy in his message for Climate Week 2013.

Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign culminating in a week of activities, which showcases practical solutions to the problems arising from climate change from every sector of society.

In Wales there are 2,228 companies who are involved in green business, employing 41,508 people. In total £447.60 is contributed to UK exports from green companies across Wales.

The UK has the sixth largest share of the global green business market at £122 billion. Conservatives in Government are taking various steps to help Britain capture a greater share of this market.

These include the Green Deal, which is expected to support up to 60,000 jobs in the insulation sector alone by 2015.

Mr Cairns said: “Climate Week 2013 offers a great chance to look not only at the environmental but economic benefit of going green. “Businesses across Wales and the Vale of Glamorgan help to drive energy efficiency and generate growth and jobs.

"And through energy efficiency schemes like our Green Deal people will have the chance to save money on their energy bills by reducing the need to spend so much to stay warm.”
