AN elderly man found lying in a Penarth road in the early hours of Saturday morning (August 17) is believed to have fallen and hit his head, according to police who have ruled out earlier suspicions of an assault or hit-and-run with a car.
South Wales Police had appealed for information following the incident which occurred on Grove Terrace, after the 69-year-old was found with “serious injuries” at 1.30am.
Officers had suspect he was hit by a vehicle which may not have stopped, or been the victim of an attack.
But today (Monday August 19) the police said his injuries were being treated as the result of a fall.
A spokesperson said: “There is nothing to suggest the either of the earlier suspicions were correct.”
Grove Terrace was cordoned off for an amount of time on Saturday morning.
The man was taken to University Hospital of Wales.
He was said to have been returning home from the Penarth Conservative Club where he had spent the evening when he fell.
