THE annual Richard Buckley Memorial Cup has taken place – and as usual it was a knock out!
The popular three-team fancy dress event held at Cogan Rec raised more than £1,610 for charity.
The fun kicked off with a series of mini football matches between Cogan Coronation’s junior sides, much to the delight of the crowd.
This was followed by the highly anticipated ‘Minions’ versus the ‘Scousers’.
The ‘Minions’ started with a version of the haka, but they failed to frighten the ‘Scousers’, who proceeded to bully their way to victory.
Next up, ‘Mrs Brown’s’ played the ‘Scousers’, but the outcome was the same.
At the boxing over the pool event, the ‘Scousers’ found themselves at a disadvantage as there was a semblance of rules to be adhered to.
As a result, despite some awesome bouts there were draws all round - and hypothermia for the contestants who were punched into the ice cold water.
Next all three teams faced the mighty Paca on the bungee rope.
But Paca was good money for its reputation, and managed to defeat all three teams.
Organiser Ian Buckley wished to say thanks to all that attended - participants and spectators alike - and made it a special day.
“Massive thanks to the Coronation Chiefs, who, as always, set up all the games and stalls,” he said.
“Thanks to Patch and Lisa for catering and feeding the 5000. Thanks to everyone who donated raffle prizes. And thanks Theresa and Rich at the Top House, Mel at the Cora, and Penarth Fire Station.”
All proceeds will be split between Erwr Delyn School and the Fire Fighters Charity.
