DESPITE torrential downpour Penarth’s Bangladeshi restaurant, Jaflon, put on a brave face in a contest against a formidable foe on the weekend.
Staff from the popular local restaurant took part in the Bobath Wales Dragon Boat Race at Atlantic Wharf in Cardiff on Sunday (September 15).
The charity provides specialist therapy for children in Wales who have cerebral palsy, and after twelve closely fought heats Team Jaflon was one of three to progress to the final.
The teams of ten paddlers and one drummer raced along the 250m stretch of the East Bute Dock with a helmsman steering and shouting instructions.
The final was a fast-paced affair but Team Jaflon stuck to its guns and crossed the line as close winners.
The dragon race is one of many events that Bobath Wales has held to celebrate its 21st year, and marks the start of a busy few months for Bobath, whose annual Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month starts on October 1.
Claire Brown, Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales senior events co-ordinator said: “We would like to thank all of the teams who braved the weather and raised money for Bobath Wales. Huge congratulations to Team Jaflon who on returning for a second year have taken home the trophy!”
