CONSULTATION results have revealed Dinas Powys residents are in favour of a new medical practice in the village – but many are worried about its potential location on the former St Cyres School annexe site.
More than 200 locals attended an event outlining the plans for the state of the art centre at the Lee Hall in June.
The centre would house the two current GP practices –The Family Practice and The Group Practice – together with some heath board community services and a community pharmacy.
The event was organised by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and primary healthcare developer, Brackley, with 170 consultation responses.
A newsletter released this week said: “The number of people that turned out to the event demonstrates the importance of a new medical centre for the village.”
But while there was also said to be ‘overwhelming’ support for the scheme, many people said they were unsure about the location and access to the site, and that public transport arrangements would need to be made to supplement this.
Only 37 per cent of respondents said they were pleased with the location at the top of Murch Road, with 34 per cent displeased and a further 29 per cent unsure.
Clare Evans, head of primary care at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, thanked those who shared their views.
She said: "We were delighted to see so many turn out to the event, which demonstrates the importance of this issue for the village. We have analysed the feedback and are particularly pleased to see the overwhelming support for a new medical centre for Dinas Powys and the significant support for the proposal as presented on the day.
“We acknowledge the mixed response to the question of location and note that many people were unsure of the access to the site. This was a clear message and our team's key action point from this consultation is to work with interested parties to address these concerns.”
The newsletter summarising the findings on the consultation event is available from the current Dinas Powys practices.
