BOTANICAL art is blooming for a Penarth local.
Chris Taylor is keen to share his passion for the natural world with a series of botanical painting classes and workshops.
A valid scientific tool for the accurate means of plant identification, Chris believes the medium offers an exciting and creative way for artists to ‘express the sheer joy and beauty of plants’.
He began specialising in botanical art painting five years ago and has a highly regarded diploma in botanical art from the Society of Botanical Artists, and several successful UK exhibitions under his belt.
Starting with Late Season Flowers on September 20, monthly sessions will be held at St Donat’s Arts Centre in Llanwit Major, covering different topics with the changing seasons, including Harvest Fruits and Vegetables (25 October), Seedheads, Cones and Conkers (22 November) plus a special festive lesson covering the painting of Evergreens, Leaves and Berries (13 December).
“I teach using demonstration exercises followed by supported individual practical work,” said Chris. “An informal approach is designed to develop students’ confidence and skills. Classes are aimed at painters of all abilities.”

Chris’s work can currently be seen on display at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre, Cardiff Bay, until October 5.
Upcoming exhibitions for 2014 include Penarth Pier Pavilion, London and Hampshire.
