ESSENTIAL gas mains replacement work in Penarth Town Centre remains on schedule as it prepares to move into the final stage going into October.
The Wales and West Utilities (WWU) works are progressing in Stanwell Road and the traffic lights have been moved from the junction of Hickman Road and Plymouth Road, onto the junction with Victoria Road.
It is anticipated these works will take approximately two to three weeks to complete, while the remainder of works on Windsor Terrace at the junction with Beach Road and Church Road are planned to be completed by Friday September 20.
Following this work will commence on Beach Road under a set of traffic lights for a further two to three weeks. It is anticipated that all works in Beach Road will be completed by Friday October 11.
At the start of October the team will also move onto Hickman Road at the junction with Railway Terrace, with the final loop of the new gas main extended down to Windsor Road.
The scheme is part of a multi-million pound 30-year replacement programme across Wales and the south west of England to replace old metal pipes and ensure the safe and secure supply of gas to homes and businesses in the area for years to come
A spokesperson for WWU said: “Our overall works program for Penarth for 2013 remains on schedule and will also continue to progress out of Town along Stanwell Road in to the residential areas.
“We will continue to keep local businesses and residents fully informed of the plans and regret any inconvenience that this vitally important scheme may cause.”
The work started on June 23.
