Final call for volunteers in the Vale to raise money for Diabetes UK

DIABETES UK is looking for more than 40 enthusiastic volunteers to fill the final few spaces at a collection weekend at Tesco stores in Barry and Penarth in October.
The Big Collection is a nationwide fundraising event for Diabetes UK and 8,000 volunteers are needed to support the weekend taking place in 600 Tesco stores across the UK on October 4, 5 and 6.
Thousands of volunteers have already come forward, but with less than a month to go Diabetes UK is looking for volunteers who can give three hours of their time to collect donations over the weekend.
The collection weekend aims to raise £400,000 to support the three million people living with diabetes in the UK and help find the 850,000 who remain undiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes UK Cymru’s director Dai Williams said: “We really want to thank everyone who has already volunteered to take part in the Big Collection weekend, but we need more volunteers to fill all our shifts. If you are shopping at Tesco that weekend, why not select a shift on the same day.
“We would be delighted if people in Barry and Penarth could join us in collecting donations and having some fun. If you can spare a few hours of your weekend we would like to hear from you.”
The weekend is being organised as part of a major National Charity Partnership between Diabetes UK and Tesco. The partnership aims to support the millions of people who have to live with diabetes every day, help hundreds of thousands of people take action to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes and fund investment into ground-breaking research for a Type 1 vaccine.
Volunteers can select three-hour shifts on the Diabetes UK website: www.diabetes.org.uk/big-collection. For further information contact the Diabetes UK Cymru team by calling 029 2066 2960 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
