THE Penarth Ex-servicemen's Club has raised a massive £2,626 for the club's charity Help for Heroes with the support and hard work from Penarth band, The Silverbacks, and club member, Theresa Stowe.
The Silverbacks raised £2,326 and were sponsored by local businesses and friends who attended their charity gig at the club. They have also been busy selling Help for Heroes wristbands in Penarth town centre and visited the local shops and traders persuading them to donate money and raffle prizes to this worthwhile cause.
Help for Heroes supports veterans and serving personnel who have been wounded or injured, or have become sick, as a result of serving their country. Additionally their families and dependants receive support from the charity as they care for their loved one, and adapt to the new challenges that they face.
One businessman, who happened to be passing the club on Windsor Road as the gig began, came in and immediately donated £200!
Club member Theresa Stowe raised £300 from a Cabaret evening held at the Ex-servicemen's Club, adding to the overall total for this commendable charity.
Penarth Ex-servicemen's Club chairman Mark Holder said: “We are very grateful to the band and Theresa for their hard work and dedication to the two events.
“We have adopted Help for Heroes as our chosen charity at the club and hope to continue raising money with as many events as possible for this excellent cause.”
The Silverbacks will be playing at Penarth Ex-servicemen’s Club again on Saturday, October 5. All welcome.
