Penarth RAFA branch raises £2000 with service commemoration show

PENARTH Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association organised a service commemoration with a difference earlier this month, and raised over £2000.
The traditional of Britain Service of Thanksgiving in Alexandra Park on Sunday September 16 but the local club also held a fundraising drive the day before, with a show in the town centre.
The police and local authority granted permission for an afternoon of entertainment outside the St Fagans Hotel on Windsor Road.
Harmony group Gentlemen Prefer Blondes were the stand out performers, with teenage cadets collecting donations.
Joan Hoctor, one half of the swing-style 40s and 50s retro singing duo, said: “We had a wonderful day.”
The money raised from the three-hour event will go towards the RAFA Wings Appeal.
RAFA Club chairman Tony Parsons said: “We felt it would be a unique way of fundraising for the appeal. It was very successful.
“Thank you to all the locals who donated so generously.”
The club are hoping to hold the event again next year.
