ASSEMBLY Member Andrew RT Davies has welcomed the announcement of a new facility for mental health at Llandough Hospital.
The South Wales Central AM said: “The new facility will be an opportunity to focus and develop expertise in the area and its proximity to the main hospital will improve links with related specialities.”
Health Minister Mark Drakeford revealed £88 million Welsh Government funding to provide a ‘modern, sustainable and purpose built’ unit on Tuesday (September 24).
The Cardiff and the Vale University Health Board scheme will comprise 135 beds and centralise all general adult mental health inpatient services for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan at the local site.
AM Mr Davies also reiterated calls for the Welsh Government to reverse their £800 million cuts to the overall NHS budget though.
“This much needed investment does not, however, address wider concerns about the long term sustainability of local services, particularly if the Welsh Government refuses to reverse their £800 million cuts to the Welsh NHS,” he added,
“I am hopeful that local AM Vaughan Gething and the Finance Minister Jane Hutt will be pressing the case for greater investment in the NHS with their cabinet colleagues.”
