PENARTH’S former Big Brother star Lisa Jeynes has spoken of her outrage after the boss of the French company that distributed defective breast implants was jailed for four years.

Lisa, who had her breast implants removed after she discovered they had ruptured, said she was “disgusted” by the short length of the sentence and that the damage caused by the defective breast implants to thousands of women was “unquantifiable”.

Jean-Claude Mas, the founder of Poly Implant Prothese (PiP), was found guilty of fraud and was also fined 75,000 euros (£63,000) by a court in Marseille.

PiP's sale of faulty implants caused a global health scare which affected about 300,000 women in 65 countries.

The company was found to have used sub-standard silicone gel - rather than medical-grade silicone - with the result that many implants ruptured.

Apart from Mas, four other former PIP executives were also convicted and given lesser sentences.

Lisa, who originally had the breast implant surgery on Five’s ‘Cosmetic Surgery Live’ in 2004, suffered from ruptured breast implants herself and had to have them removed in a three hour operation in June last year.

“The nurses were fantastic but as they were so badly ruptured it took them a while to get them out,” she said.

“They filmed it for ITV News and when I saw the DVD of what came out afterwards it was disgusting.”

She added that she was still living with the effects of the defective breast implants, and had to have ultrascans every three to six months as well as monitoring that her white blood cell count was not too high. She has also been left with scars from the surgery.

“Lying on my side is uncomfortable and feels like something is stuck in me,” she added.

Lisa, who starred in Big Brother in 2003 and made a re-appearance in 2010, added that she was concerned for other people that were going through similar ordeals.

“It’s just worrying,” she said.

“My heart goes out to every other woman going through this. It’s heart breaking.

“It’s just a constant worry in the back of your mind.”

Lisa, who is currently writing her own autobiography and plans to have it published next year, has also completed several charity fundraisers over the last few months.

She has now raised a total of £1,650.00 for Ty Hafan, the Sully-based children’s hospice, after a series of fundraisers.

Her most recent one was a karaoke night at The Station pub in Cogan that raised £125.

“I would like to say a big Thank You to Tereza Ashley and Richard Brockway for all their hard work for the event,” she said.

“I would also like to thank Elfed Williams, who has put in so much effort into every event.

“An auction and quiz night will be held at a different venue at a later date. I would like to thank everybody who supported me and donated to this very worthy cause.”
