THE winners of this year's annual Town Mayor painting competition were recently presented with their prizes at Penarth Pier Pavilion.

The annual painting competition for both nursery and primary school pupils has been running since the 1980’s and has been wonderfully supported by the schools in Penarth. This year Penarth Town Council worked with Penarth Pier Pavilion Project for the Annual Town Mayor’s Painting Competition that added a new impetus to the competition.

A Penarth Town Council spokesman said: "This year we received an incredible 951 paintings from the many young school artists who took part and it was a welcomed but difficult task judging the paintings that were of high quality. On Friday, December 6, the Town Mayor, Councillor Neil Thomas, and David Trotman, director Penarth Pier Pavilion, received teachers, staff and pupils from the winning schools into the Penarth Pier Pavilion for a reception for the winning schools and individual winners.

"The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Penarth Pavilion at Christmas’ which had been chosen by the Town Mayor and David Trotman and gave children the opportunity to really showcase their unique individual talents. This year’s paintings were again of a particularly high standard and a great number of the paintings have been displayed at the pavilion."

The Town Mayor presented trophies and plaques to the winning schools as well as presenting trophies and gifts to the individual winners in each of the three categories.

Afterwards, everyone was invited to enjoy the snacks and refreshments in the pavilion.

Below is a list of the winning schools and individuals.

The winning entries will also feature as Christmas Cards for next year. The Town Council would like to thank all involved with this wonderful competition.
