YOUNGSTERS who raised more than £1,400 for Penarth’s Marie Curie Hospice have been thanked for their efforts.

This year the fundraising team at the Marie Curie Hospice Cardiff and the Vale have been thrilled to have support from many children and young people who have been getting involved with a number of fundraising events organised by parents. A spokeswoman from the hospice said: “They really did well raising lots of money to help the hospice in a number of ways.”

Local girls Caitlin Salmon, Niamh Pearse, Tia Lee and Ella Courtney visited the Marie Curie Hospice to hand over their cheque for £700 they raised by holding a Blooming Great Tea Party in Wordsworth Avenue in the summer. Lara Rundle and Matilda Stewart were also part of a walk arranged by Linda Chadwick from Cardiff Castle to Barry Island which raised £750.

Karen Jones, fundraising manager for the hospice, said: “These girls are full of great ideas to help raise money and very keen to help people. They enjoyed seeing the wards and meeting some nurses who also said a big thank you to them for their support and we are so pleased that youngsters are getting involved with their community in a number of different ways.”
