COGAN Nursery School is aiming to top off a stellar year by entering the singles chart.
The teaching team at the nursery, who were crowned the UK’s ‘Outstanding School Team of the Year’ at the Pearson Teaching Awards earlier this year, have this week launched an official school single.
Titled ‘Learn to Grow’ the single is available to purchase on sites such as iTunes, Amazon and streaming sites including Spotify.
This year the school has been described as “inclusive, innovative, highly imaginative, stimulating, vibrant and exceptionally well resourced” by Estyn and sector leaders in technology, with the school being only one of 83 in the world to hold the prestigious 3rd Millennium Learning Award.
Cogan Nursery School have now set their sights on teaching the children of the world with their videos and songs. The school’s Youtube video channel, which features educational videos and story telling, has recently reached over 25,000 hits.
Headteacher Pauline Rowland said: “Our official single, which has been launched on iTunes, Spotify and other digital music retail stores, aims to celebrate the work schools achieve and highlight to parents the importance of school and the joy of learning through play.”
Peter Thomas, senior teacher who composed the music and lyrics to the song, added: “The inspiration for this song came from a news article I happened to be reading, exploring how parents were purchasing expensive learning resources for their children to develop them further.
“Many parents have less time to spend with their children because of modern life. Finding replacements in terms of their presence to supplement their children’s development can be a labyrinth and expensive.
“I realised the pressures parents felt and wanted to help everyone who felt this way to see that expensive items were not always the solution and wanted to reassure them that what is happening in schools, especially at Cogan Nursery School with our philosophy of play and traditional outside learning, the best resources can’t be bought but instead found in the imagination and natural resources such as sticks and tree climbing”
The school recently published and distributed a new book titled ‘School Days, Everyone a Reader – Everyone a Writer’. The book includes a collection of poems and stories created by the children with every child of the school having been accredited as an author within the book.
With an album planned for 2014 and big plans for their educational channel Cogan Nursery School is fast becoming a resource point for other schools as well as a beacon of how Early Years education can enhance and drive standards forward for all children and not just those who attend its school.
