TRIBUTES have been paid to a “devoted father and grandfather” that died in a road traffic collision on Redlands Road in Penarth.

William Crocker, 82, known as Bill, from Dinas Powys, was travelling home in a silver coloured Kia Rio at around 10.20pm on Wednesday, December 18, when his car collided with a bollard.

Police are appealing for anyone that may have witnessed the collision to get in touch.

Mr Crocker’s family is heart-broken at the loss of their father and grandfather, who had many friends and was well known in Dinas Powys and Penarth.

His family has paid the following tribute to him.

“Originally from Lowestoft, Bill lived in Cardiff from the age of eight. Bill married Glynis in 1960 and was happily married for 50 years. They settled in Dinas Powys in 1965.

“As a young man he followed his family tradition and went to sea, working on the trawlers and for a short time in the Merchant Navy. During his life he had a variety of jobs of which his final employment was as a school caretaker and driver at the Lindens School in Penarth.

“Bill was a member of the Oddfellows Friendly Society in Cardiff. He had many interests and hobbies which included singing and travelling the world as a member of a male voice choir, gardening, cooking and being with his family.

“He was a devoted father and grandfather and leaves behind his daughters Sally and Jayne, son Robert and son- in-law Ben and Rupert and five grandchildren.”

South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses who have not already provided their details to contact them following this road traffic collision.
