THE Civil Aid Voluntary Rescue Association (CAVRA), formerly the Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association (CAVRA) had another busy year during 2013.

A total of 11,167 volunteer hours, estimated to be worth £123,730 based on the recognised hourly rate for volunteers.

A total of 103 persons were rescued, mainly during the snow earlier in the year, with a further 24 being assisted, and three other taskings.

CAVRA has recently changed its name to encompass an enlarged area of benefit, which now covers the whole of South, Mid and West Glamorgan and surrounding areas.

All members of CAVRA are volunteers who provide assistance during adverse weather conditions such as storms, flood, snow, drought etc, as well as a range of civil contingencies and assisting in searches for missing persons.

For further details see their website at www.cavra.org where there is a short video of some of their work.
