A PENARTH singer songwriter is hoping the release of his first EP will hit the right note.
Phil Lewis’s ‘Age of Nothing’ will be released and available for download on January 20.
Phil, of The Royal on Queens Road, said the EP was inspired by the likes of The Killers and other bands that he grew up listening to.
“My music taste is very wide and eclectic,” he said.
“I’ve got 2,500 CD’s which covers most bases of popular music.”
He added that his favourite genres were 1970’s funk, indie music like the Killers and ‘big stadium bands’ like U2 and Coldplay.
Unsigned artist Phil added that his two biggest influences were indie music and African rhythm music, and that he had always been interested in music since he was a child.
“It was almost a ritual that every Sunday afternoon we would sit down and listen to the top 40 as a family,” he said.
“We weren’t forced to do it, we all just wanted to find out who was number one.”
He added: “I also remember being given a Beatles compilation and it was then that I realised that music was what I wanted to do. That’s where it all started for me.”
Former St Cyres pupil Phil, who has released three albums before, said that it took about three months to record the EP and that he was “really proud” of it.
“Everyone that has listened to it so far has had a really positive reaction,” he said.
“I just hope that other people will enjoy it.
“I have already started writing new songs and I’m looking forward to starting to record again.”
He added that in the future he would like to set up an acoustic band night in Penarth.
“Penarth is full of a lot of talented people.
“I have never been able to keep a band together, but I’d like to get a community group together in Penarth and start a band night.”
Age of Nothing will be available to download on January 20.
