A BUS caused traffic chaos after it crashed into the mini-roundabout near Tesco on Windsor Road on Saturday evening.

The Cardiff Bus was heading towards Penarth town centre from the Baron’s Court when it went over the central reservation that divides traffic, running over an illuminated bollard and road sign, before crashing into the mini-roundabout at about 5pm.

Traffic was diverted around the scene by the police until the bus was removed by about 7pm.

It is unknown what the cause of the crash was, but at the time of the collision it was dark and there was heavy rain.

The windscreen was smashed at the front of the bus, the wipers were hanging on the floor, and side panels also came off the front of the bus. The front of the bus was also damaged and was left hanging on the road.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “Police in Penarth were called to a road traffic collision which was reported at around 4.55pm on Saturday, January 18. A public service bus was in collision with a mini-roundabout near the junction for Penarth Marina.

“The bus was removed from the location and roads reopened shortly after 7.00pm.”

A Cardiff Bus Spokeswoman said: “We are aware of an incident that took place on Saturday, January 18. A full investigation is currently underway and we are assisting the relevant authorities in their enquiries."
