Charity asks young people to help design posters for coffee mornings

A DESIGN competition to create posters for charity coffee mornings has been launched across the Vale.

Cardiff based charity Theatre Versus Oppression are asking young people to raise awareness of their fundraising campaign for Ugandan child refugees by helping them create a poster campaign to promote their fundraising.

Theatre Versus Oppression are raising money for their project in Africa, Right to Learn and their work with the Kyangwali refugee camp in Uganda, where they work with victims of tribal war.

Founder of the charity, JS Hartley said: “For the children to get out of the camp they go to boarding school in the nearest town. It is basic but they have a mattress to sleep on, food, healthcare and a good education.

"This gives them a great opportunity and is a much improved life compared to that of the camp.

"We sponsor 12 children in Africa and we would like support more but we know not everyone can sponsor a child so instead we look at other means of fundraising and raising the profile of what we do, including our monthly coffee mornings on the first Saturday of every month where anyone can come along to find out what we do and also make crafts for the Refugee Camp.

"For our first coffee morning on Saturday, February 1 we are asking young people to help raise awareness of our charity and the work we do with young people in Africa, many of who are the same age.

"This poster will then be rolled out across as part of our coffee morning events as a way of communicating what we do and what the events will help to do”.

The design competition is open to anyone and can be designed on Saturday, February 1 from 10am to 1pm at the Coffee Morning at Bute Town History and Arts Centre on Bute Street, Cardiff Bay.
