A CHARITY breakfast fundraiser in aid of bereaved children was held at a Penarth coffee shop earlier today.

Winston’s Wish, the leading charity for bereaved children, organised the event as part of the Great British Brekkie fundraising week, February 10 – 16.

Winston’s Wish is hoping to raise £50,000 to support bereaved children by hosting a series of charity breakfast mornings throughout this week.

The charity encouraged people to hold their own Great British Brekkie and “revive the tradition of the Great British breakfast”.

The Banana Bunch is a children’s book raising money for Winston’s Wish and Ty Hafan.

The book, based on a series of real letters sent to a seriously ill friend, chronicles the zany adventures of two inventive monkeys.

Dawn Carroll, fundraising on behalf of The Banana Bunch, said: “We had a fantastic welcome from everyone at Coffee #1 in Penarth, from both the lovely, friendly staff, to customers of all ages.

“One of the smaller customers even let us use Monkey Dave for a photo!”

She added: “We were deeply touched by the generosity of the Coffee #1 staff, Justina, Amy, Charlotte and Dave, who put their morning customer tips into the Winston's Wish Great British Brekkie collecting tin.

“It was just brilliant and so very kind. The customers were also so very warm, welcoming and generous. A big thank you goes to all of them.”

The Banana Bunch raised more than £100 during the breakfast fundraiser.

Dawn Carroll added: “It was just very sad to hear, on arrival, about the recent theft of money from the safe at the nearby Ty Hafan shop. The Banana Bunch team, who fundraise for both Ty Hafan and Winston's Wish, will be doing their best to help with extra funds for Ty Hafan as soon as possible.”
