YOUNG people are invited to cast themselves into the world of creative industries this February half-term by following a new course.

A series of workshops, co-ordinated by the ArtsConnect collaboration together with Barry YMCA and funded by the Arts Council of Wales, is aiming to help 16 to 25-year-olds gain valuable experience in music and media.

The ArtsConnect collaboration between local authority arts services in the Vale, Bridgend, Merthyr and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Boroughs is assembling a media team for the SONIG Youth Music Industry’s Young Promoters Network (YPN) initiative, which supports young people to gain experience of putting on gigs and events for people their age.

Those taking part will have an introduction into composition and cameras; learn how to use a range of cameras and audio equipment, and capture and edit content both on final cut and on the go, before putting their new skills to use by creating a range of media content for YPN events taking place throughout the next 12 months.

The course will take place at The Hub, Barry YMCA, from 10.30am to 3pm from Monday, February 24 to Thursday, February 27.

Applicants, aged 16 to 25-years-old, must be available for all workshops, and be keen to create media for YPN events as part of the newly-formed media team.

For details, or to register for the course, visit www.BarryYMCA.org.uk. Registration closes Thursday, February 20.
