THE Royal British Legion is calling on London Marathon runners to join Team Legion and raise money to support our Armed Forces community, past and present, and their families.
With the less than two months to go to the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday, April 13, the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity is encouraging anyone who already has their own place to sign up to the Legion team and stand shoulder to shoulder with all who serve.
Charles Byrne, head of fundraising at The Royal British Legion, said: “This year 80 runners have joined Team Legion and the money they raise will help us to continue providing practical advice and support to Serving personnel, veterans and their families.
“In the UK, there are approximately nine million Service people, veterans and family members that could benefit from our support. We spend £1.6 million each week on our vital welfare services which include helping families with debt and ensuring older veterans can live independently in their own home - so the more people who run for us, the more beneficiaries we can support.
“We want to make our marathon team the biggest yet, so if you haven’t chosen to run for a charity, please join our team and help make a difference to those affected by all conflicts.”
If you would like to join the Legion’s team, contact Fiona Lyons, challenge events manager, on flyons@britishlegion.org.uk or 020 3207 2268.
