PENARTH Male Voice Choir has disbanded after more than 110 years of singing in the town.

The choir has sighted falling membership behind finishing and has reluctantly chosen to disband.

Penarth Male Voice Choir, which was founded in 1896 and has been in operation almost ever since, has performed at many weddings and special events over the years.

It has also raised money for a range of charities by performing in and around Penarth.

The choir has appeared at a number of prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall as part of the South Wales Association of Male Voice Choirs massed concerts.

Phil Thomas, chairman of the choir, said in a letter to the Penarth Times: “Unfortunately time has caught up to the extent that the choir can no longer continue and a decision to disband has reluctantly been taken.

“The choir would like to thank sincerely all current and former members for their service and the organisations who have invited it to perform over the years.”
