HAMPTONS is celebrating after being crowned ‘Best Cafe’ at the inaugural Cardiff Life Awards.

Hamptons owners Peter Knowles and Andy Bradshaw were presented with the award for the Blue Pelican Cafe during a glittering awards ceremony held at Cardiff City Hall last Thursday, March 6.

Hamptons, based on Ludlow Lane, was one of several Penarth businesses to be nominated for an award but was the only one to walk home with an accolade.

Andy Bradshaw said that all of the Penarth businesses, including Dear Doris, Bar 44, The Pilot, Rachel Burgess Bridal Boutique and Waterloo Tea, were all sat on the same table for the awards ceremony.

“It was a fantastic camaraderie on the table,” he said.

“We were completely blown over when they said we had won as there were 26 other cafes that were considered.”

He added that he thought the award would be a real “boost” to Penarth: “Peter promoted Penarth in his speech and said what a great place it is for family businesses and how many small and independent companies have come into Penarth.

He added: “Penarth is becoming quite a force in terms of shopping and people are coming from the likes of Cardiff, Cowbridge, Barry and across the Vale to come here.”
