Stanwell School events

STANWELL School pupils enjoyed a busy March with many events to be proud of.

Year 12 boys completed a charity bike ride along the Taff Trail in memory of their fellow student Robert Togden, a keen cyclist who tragically died last year.

The group rode from Cardiff to Swansea on the trail and all the boys have been sponsored by friends, family and school staff in the hope of raising as much money as possible.

The funds raised will go to establishing a secure bike shed in Robert's memory, with any remaining money going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Well done to Daniel Skentelbery, Ronan Bywater-Lees, Matthew Coughtrey, Daniel Righton, Jonathan Gambling, Nick Constantino-Russell, Joe Pollock and Robert Cavaye.

On March 5 the school was alive with colour as they held their annual Eisteddfod for Years 7 and 8.

Pupils wore their house colours to cheer on their peers in the stage and house competitions.

Overall winners in Year 7 were the students of Gwynedd House and in Year 8 Powys House students were victorious. All students did a fantastic job with the standard at each event being very high.

Also art students have returned to start the new half term inspired by the beauty and architecture of Venice. During their half term holiday, they were able to experience a vaporetto cruise on the Grand Canal and visits to St Mark's Square, the Peggy Guggenheim museum and the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.

Another very successful trip was the traditional senior Ski trip to Austria. The party had a wonderful time with five hours of skiing lessons every day and a multitude of evening activities to occupy them. The weather was wonderful throughout and the school are now looking forward to the annual junior ski trip at Easter.
