A PENARTH artist is set to raffle off a stunning painting of Magnolias in aid of charity.

Sheridan Ward, who recently held an exhibition at the Penarth Pier Pavilion, is auctioning off her ‘Magnolia’ fine art painting with proceeds raised going towards the children’s hospice Ty Hafan.

Sheridan, who features much of Penarth and Cosmeston in her work, said: “I just thought a raffle would be a good idea to raise money as it's very unlikely that I will ever run a marathon or any sport related event that would involve sponsorship, but this is something that I can do and everyone has a chance to win the painting.”

She added: “I decided on Ty Hafan as I am a mother of two young children and really wanted to support a local charity than offers so much support to families when they desperately need it, in circumstances that I couldn't even imagine having to cope with.”

She said that it wasn’t the first time she had supported charity: “Throughout my career I have supported charities by donating paintings at various charity events. Last year I had a solo show in St James, London, with proceeds going to World Child Cancer, so I thought I would try something a bit different.”

She added that her recent exhibition of fine art at the Penarth Pier Pavilion was a “wonderful success” and that she was now working towards her next solo show at Fountain Fine Art in Cardiff from September 13 onwards.

“I will also have some work in the Spring Group show Fountain Fine Art in Llandeilo opening in the next couple of weeks. Further to my September show I will be showing work with The Lion Street Gallery in Hay on Wye and Thompson's Gallery in Marylebone - so I'm looking forward to an exciting and busy year.”

Each raffle ticket costs just £1 and people can buy as many as they like.

The raffle will be held on May 1.
