A PENARTH man who guarded the Queen when she was still a Princess celebrated his 100th birthday on April 9.
William ‘Bill’ Hall, who served with the Gloucestershire Regiment in Burma, was also served his Christmas dinner by the Queen’s mother during his royal commitments.
Bill, of Clive Place, celebrated becoming a centenarian with close family and friends on the weekend.
He was joined by his four great grand children, ranging from one to four years old.
His daughter Chris Morris said that after he finished serving with the Gloucestershire Regiment he moved to Penarth and married her mother, Beryl Hall (nee Atkins), and worked for a painting and decorating firm until his retirement.
She said that it was "an achievement in itself" to reach 100 years old and survive serving during the Burma campaign.
She added that he had also been a lifelong member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB).
