A SUNNY day at Alexandra Park

I pass the Garden of Remembrance,

Then stroll into magnificent Alexandra Gardens,

Observing a blackbird scouring for insects,

Amongst the bluebells and daffodils.

The verdant grass freckled with daisies,

Flowerbeds resplendent in purple and yellow,

Feather clouds innocuously pass by,

Wrinkled sea painted light blue by the sky.

Seagulls are perched in the Memorial Tower,

But unlike them I contemplate the horror of the war,

A million miles from this peaceful park.

Two elderly people sit on separate benches,

Glad to be free from the prison of four walls.

As I admire a magnolia tree,

There’s no trace of winter's miserable gloom,

For everything is bursting into bloom.

As I listen to an orchestra of birds,

Magnificent like the works of Mozart.

A hedge is cut to the shape of a bird,

And the flowers wave softly,

In a pleasant spring-time April breeze.

This is a picture of tranquillity,

In a world where we rush but go nowhere,

Whilst here you can relax without a care.
