A PENARTH choir group celebrating 30 years of making music is set to hold a special anniversary performance later this month.

Cavatina Singers was founded 30 years ago by Hilda Morgan simply to enjoy singing and to give concerts mostly in Penarth.

It has given concerts in support of very many local charities and has a varied repertoire from classical works such as Vivaldi`s Gloria to Tudor madrigals, motets and arrangements of folk and popular songs.

The choir was featured in the ITV series "In Fine Voice" in 2004 and gives occasional lunchtime recitals in the Wales Millennium Centre

Catavina Singers will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on Saturday, May 17, with a performance at All Saints Church in Penarth from 7.30pm onwards.

The choir will perform a new, specially commissioned piece for SATB chorus and piano called "A Life in a Day" by Penarth-based composer, Ian Lawson.

The programme will also include John Rutter`s "The Sprig of Thyme", a cycle of folk-song settings, as well as pieces by Elgar, Mansel Thomas, Frank Ticheli and Thomas Morely. Tickets, £8, include a complimentary drink and canapes and can be obtained from Foxy`s Deli, Penarth. Cavatina Singers will also be performing on Saturday, June 7, from 11am on the Glanfa Stage at The Wales Millennium Centre.

Further details about the choir, including how to become a member, can be obtained from the Hon. Secretary Tom Dawkes. e-mail secreatary@cavatinasingers.org.uk, and from the website www.cavatinasingers.org.uk.
