UKIP have beaten the Conservative Party and Labour to a first place finish in the Vale of Glamorgan European Election.
The Vale is one of six council boroughs in Wales to put the UK Independence Party at the top of their poll, joining Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Powys and Wrexham.
Overall Labour narrowly finished first in Wales with 28.7 percent ahead of UKIP with 28.1 percent. The Conservatives came third with 17.8 percent followed by Plaid Cymru, with 15.6 percent.
Ultimately each of the four seats have been retained by the same four parties as the 2009 election, with the MEPs selected being Derek Vaughan (Labour), Nathan Gill (UKIP), Kay Swinburne (Conservative) and Jill Evans (Plaid Cymru).
In the Vale of Glamorgan UKIP finished first with 9577 votes, second place was the Conservatives (9190), third was Labour (7926) and fourth was Plaid Cymru (3484).
The Green Party trailed with 1734 votes, finishing ahead of the Liberal Democrats (1106).
Other candidates running in the Vale were Britain First (285), the British National Party (254), the Socialist Labour Party (138), NO2EU (131) and the Socialist Party of Great Britain (76).
The Vale of Glamorgan 33,993 votes were recorded, a 36.51 percent turnout.
