HUNDREDS of fundraisers took to the streets of Cardiff to raise money for the cancer charity Tenovus' Goodnight Walk.

Nearly 600 walkers were sent on their way by Capital FM DJ Polly James, with the five and 10 mile routes taking them past landmarks like Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff Castle and the National Museum of Wales, on Saturday, May 17.

Therese Holmes, who is hoping to raise £100 from her fundraising efforts and did the walk with her partner Malcolm, said: "The atmosphere was amazing, all of the volunteers were super friendly and helpful, and the cheerleaders sending us on our way were also brilliant.

“We did the 10 mile route and it was nice to see the colourful lights at Roath Park with the Fairy welcoming us at the half way point. Everyone on the walk was smiling and enjoying the warm evening, I bumped into two of my friends, they were volunteer marshals, by Cardiff University’s Glamorgan Building, so that was an added bonus"

She added: “I am aiming to raise £100, and so far I have received £60, but I will endeavour to get as much as I can.”

Bethan Palfrey, challenge event manager at Tenovus, said the night was a huge success.

“We’re expecting our Goodnight Walk to raise over £45,000, and this money will help us to support even more cancer patients and their families throughout Wales. Every single one of our super supporters who joined us are incredible, and I want to say a big thank you to them from everyone at Tenovus.

“It’s only the second year we’ve run our Goodnight Walk and it was even bigger and better than 2013. Make sure you’re quick at getting your name down for 2015.”

Hugh James solicitors were sponsors of the Goodnight Walk again this year. Members of their staff walked and volunteered as marshals on the route.

Joe Purcell of Hugh James spoke about why they chose Tenovus as one of their supported charities for 2014.

“We were delighted to support the Tenovus Goodnight Walk for a second year running. Tenovus does such an outstanding job helping individuals and their families who have been affected by cancer, and it was amazing to see so many walkers out in force, raising money to support this great cause."
