A FREE five week taster session for anyone who wants to learn how to lip read will take place at St Cyres School in Penarth starting on Tuesday, June 4.
The free course looks at introducing people to the benefits of lip reading and aims to reduce social isolation sometimes felt by people who have experienced hearing loss. The course is run in partnership with Wales Council for the Deaf and the Vale of Glamorgan Community Learning Service.
A spokesperson adds ‘Lip reading allows you to “listen” to a speaker by watching the speaker’s face to figure out their speech patterns, movements, gestures and expressions. Often called “a third ear,” lip reading goes beyond simply reading the lips of a speaker to decipher individual words’.
If you or anyone you know is interested in coming along to this free taster course which starts next Tuesday evening call Penarth Community Learning Centre on 029 2701569 or email padedcen@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk for more information or drop in at 6.30pm.
