ON ONE of the best days of the year so far Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern held its annual volunteers Garden Party.

The weather was glorious for the many volunteers of the charity to meet and discuss the many ways in which the charity can assist the community.

Councillor John Fanshaw chair of Trustees welcomed all to the happy event. He said that it was appropriate that the party was held in ‘Volunteer Week’ and he thanked all who contributed to the work to the charity.

The ‘Volunteer of the Year’ was Pat West who worked tirelessly for DPVC in so many roles. She was presented with a certificate by Councillor Fanshaw.

The hostess for the day was Joan Andrews who had kindly made available her beautiful garden and guests enjoyed fine refreshments supplied by willing ‘assistants’.

The next public event is the Strawberry Tea to be held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, July 16, at 2pm.

Councillor Fanshaw said: “One of our aims is to assist residents to stay in their own homes and be active members of society. For further details contact the organiser, at Murchfield Hall, Sunnycroft Lane. 02920 513700 or via email; dpvc@btinternet.com."
