THE hugely popular Penarth Summer Festival is edging closer with an exciting programme of events set to wow local residents.

This year's Summer Festival will run from Thursday, July 10 until Sunday, July 20, with the Carnival Day and fireworks display set to take place on Saturday, July 19.

A copy of the Festival Programme was in last week's Penarth Times, while copies of the programme can still be picked up the town council's West House.

A spokesman from Penarth Town Council said that there was much to look forward to in this years festival.

"A huge thank you must go out to all those who have taken the time to organise the individual events for the people of Penarth," he said.

"It is because of these people that the Festival has proven to be so popular over the years.

"There are so many great things taking place on Carnival Day – make sure you don’t miss out."

He added: "If there is anyone who wishes to take part in the parade (walking) or anyone who has a classic car / motorbike please make sure that you are at West House by 12.45pm on July 19. The parade will leave West House at 1.30pm making its way to the Esplanade. The Parade’s route has been altered slightly as follows; Penarth Town Council Offices, Stanwell Road, roundabout, Windsor Terrace, Beach Road and onto the esplanade. The route will now be easier for the school children who take part. The parade’s theme is ‘Carnival’ so be as exuberant as you dare and have lots of fun."

BRO Radio will be providing the on stage presence at the Penarth Festival Carnival.

BRO Radio has been broadcasting to Barry and parts of the Vale, including Penarth since March 2009. It provides a wide mix of programmes for all ages and local news.

The station is manned by volunteers and is your local community station on 98.1FM and online at broradio.fm.

Carnival Day this year will take place on July 19, the last Saturday of the Festival as this date is more favourable with the tides that we need for the RNLI / SAR Helicopter Display and the water based activities. There is much for you to enjoy so come and support the event and bring all the family, from granddad to grandson we have something for you. The actual schedule for the day is in the programme so that you don’t miss out on anything.

"We are very pleased to announce that there will be an inflatable go-kart track with racing for children along with donkey rides and the classic cars up the Clifftops from 1pm through till 5pm. But make sure to gather to see the RAF Falcons’ parachute team who will be jumping from the pane at 3pm

Along the clifftop path the artists will be camped out for the whole duration of the Festival. The Town Mayor will open the event with the Artists at 12 noon July 10.

We will look forward to seeing you on the day but if you have any queries in the meantime regarding the Festival please do not hesitate to contact me on the number below.

All the Festival programmes have been distributed throughout Penarth and they have been extremely well received.

All the information can be found on the events section of the Town Council website via www.penarthtowncouncil.gov.uk
