MANY people in Penarth have happy memories of times they spent in the basement of Albert Road Methodist Church, perhaps in the 2000 Club, Boys Brigade or Guides.

They might be surprised to know that groups still meet in, what is sometimes known as, the Lower Hall even though it hasn’t changed much over the last 107 years.

This same space is used by groups such as Jeff Guppy and Victoria Russell's music and dance classes, Piloga, Guides on a Tuesday and of course the Boys Brigade, who still meet there on a Friday evening.

The room is in need of repair and redecoration, which is why the church is planning a basement restoration fund.

This Saturday, July 12, between 10am - noon, the church will be holding a summer fair and coffee morning with proceeds towards repairs to the basement.

It is hoped that a good crowd will come along to the church and Community Centre to enjoy coffee, homemade cakes and ice cream and to find bargains on the many stalls, to include bric-a-brac, books and toys. Everything will be very reasonably priced so there will be many bargains to be had.

As part of the Penarth Holiday Festival the town mayor will be visiting us during the morning to see the church’s basement project off to a good start.
