AGE Cymru is calling on nimble-fingered knitters in the Vale of Glamorgan to whip out their wool and needles and create little woolly hats for The Big Knit 2014 and help older people keep warm, safe and well in winter.

The annual ‘knit-athon’ will see knitters making little woollen bobble hats that will appear on innocent smoothie bottles in major supermarkets in February 2015.

Age Cymru will receive a 25p donation for every hat knitted by Vale of Glamorgan residents. This will go towards helping older people keep warm, safe and well in winter.

Richard Nicholls, Age Cymru’s director of Income Resources says: “The Big Knit is back for its eleventh year and we hope knitters in the Vale of Glamorgan join in and help us create as many hats as possible.

“It’s easy to get involved in The Big Knit - we’ve got knitting patterns anyone can use – from beginner, to intermediate to advanced knitters.

“We’ve even got a watermelon pattern, a pineapple pattern and a grapes pattern for our budding knitters – the sky is the limit.

“In fact, in previous years we’ve had people knitting hats that looked like Shrek, Bob Marley, witches, koalas, and even all four of the Teletubbies!”

Richard Nicholls concludes: “We’ve been really impressed by the creativity of people in the Vale of Glamorgan, so please pick up those knitting needles again this year and help us make The Big Knit 2014 the best one ever.”
