A PENARTH couple on the verge of getting married have spoken of their heartbreak after their camper van was vandalised just days before their wedding and camping honeymoon.

Two windows of their camper van, which they were planning on driving to France in this weekend, were smashed at 11.10pm on Windsor Road on Tuesday night, August 5.

Police are now investigating into the crime, which saw a front and rear window smashed, and left the family “gutted” and “absolutely devastated”.

The windows will be replaced before Paola Woods and Simon Marks get married on Friday and leave for their honeymoon on Saturday, but they have had to deal with the “mess” of their camper van as they juggle all the other preparations in the build-up to their big day.

Bride-to-be Paola Woods, who works as a masseuse at Penarth Physiotherapy Practice, said: “My fiancé has spent weeks and weeks doing it up so he could take me to France for a cycling honeymoon.

“We do not have much money but we were happy to go camping and just spend six days together.”

“I am devastated and I want the person who did this to know just how awful they are.

“This was my husband-to-be's way of being romantic and making sure we had a lovely honeymoon.

“He made it look so nice inside with a sofa bed and carpeting the walls relaying the floor. Our lovely neighbour even made us curtains for it this week.”

She added: “We are just gutted that some people can be so cruel.

“We are just a normal family of two parents, four children, a dog and a cat, and we did not deserve this. We are absolutely devastated.”

Simon, who works as a teacher, said that nothing was stolen.

“The damage will be fixed in time for the honeymoon but this is the third time something has happened to the van, as it’s been maliciously scratched twice before.

“I'm just really upset that someone would do this. There's glass all over Lowri's pushchair and the kid's car seats. It’s got soaked because of the torrential rain too.”

Paola and Simon, who got engaged exactly a year ago this weekend and moved to Penarth about four months ago, are set to tie the knot on Friday and leave for their honeymoon on Saturday.
