A PENARTH community centre desperate for new committee members is set to hold an information session this weekend.

The Lower Penarth Community Centre event will provide information to potential volunteers about what roles they could fill and how they could help keep the community centre open.

It comes after a number of key committee members, including the chairman, vice chair, treasurer and secretary/bookings officer, all announced their intentions to stand down due to other commitments.

Replacements need to be found before the AGM on September 25 so that the centre can fulfil its role as a registered charity and be unable to run on a daily basis.

The registered charity is run entirely by volunteers and serves all sectors of the community, with a wide range of regular activities.

Ann Whitfield, who is standing down as secretary and bookings officer after more than 11 years in the role, said a previous appeal for volunteers in the Penarth Times had helped their search for volunteers but they were still keen on more people coming forward.

“We are now more optimistic but a lot still depends on people coming to the information session at the community centre on September 7, as well as to the AGM on September 25,” she said.

The information session, which will also feature coffee and cakes, will be held at the community centre from 11am to 1pm on Sunday, September 7.

The information session will also provide the opportunity for members of the community, local residents and centre users to find out more about helping with day- to-day tasks needed to run the centre, if becoming a committee member is not possible for them.

Everybody is very welcome to attend.
